Restore Your Smile With Dental Implants

For generations, people have struggled with tooth loss and its only solution: dentures. Today, however, your dentist offers an amazing alternative: dental implants. At our Glendale practice, Dr. Gregory Becker restores gapped smiles with these state-of-the-art prosthetics. Implants not only look like the real thing, but they also improve bone health, as well. Sound too good to be true? Read on to learn about what this tooth treatment can do for you!

What is a dental implant?

Placed by your Glendale dentist, a dental implant is a titanium cylinder that is approximately the same size and shape of a natural tooth root. Titanium is highly biocompatible, so much so that it holds onto bone cells, forming an inseparable bond between the jaw and the dental implant (a process called osseointegration). This unique feature of dental implants accounts for their high success and retention rates and the natural feel and function patients really appreciate.

The implant process

Once your dentist qualifies you for an implant procedure and inserts the device, osseointegration begins. It reaches maximum effectiveness in a few months, after which Dr. Becker attaches a metal extension post and porcelain crown to complete the artificial tooth. After that, you will regain full biting/chewing functions and your smile will be complete once again.

For patients missing more than one tooth, Dr. Becker may use multiple implants (two to six) to secure a full or partial denture. These implants integrate with the jaw just as single implants do, giving people unparalleled stability and functionality.

Living with dental implants

It's easy to care for your restored smile. Simply brush twice-a-day with a soft brush and floss at least once daily. While these artificial teeth cannot decay, keeping the implant sites free of plaque and tartar is necessary to avoid infection and increase longevity. The Institute for Dental Implant Awareness says that dental implants stay in place for decades with consistent at-home and in-office hygiene.
